League Safety
Responsibility for safety procedures should be that of an adult member of the New Windsor Little League. Managers and Coaches are responsible for their assigned teams.

No games or practices should be held when weather or field conditions are not good, particularly when lighting is inadequate.

Play areas should be inspected frequently for holes, damage, stones, glass and other foreign objects. Report any problems to your Division Commissioners.

All team equipment must be stored within the team dugout or behind screens, and not within the areas defined by the umpires as "in play".

Only players, coaches, managers and umpires are permitted on the playing field or in the dugout during games and practice sessions. Please No Siblings. Managers need to remind parents of this rule.

Responsibility for keeping bats and loose equipment off the field of play should be that of a player assigned for this purpose or the team’s manager or coaches.

Remember, most injuries occur during practices, not during games.

During warm-up drills, players should be spaced so that no one is endangered by wild throws or missed catches. Have players all throwing in the same direction. Between innings warm-ups should have the shortstop and 3rd baseman moved toward 2nd base to avoid striking the pitcher with the thrown ball.

All pre-game warm-ups should be performed within the confines of the playing field and not within areas that are frequented by spectators, (i.e. playing catch, swinging bats, etc.)

Equipment should be inspected before games and practices for the condition of the equipment as well as the proper fit.

Batters must wear Little League approved protective helmets during batting practice and games, while batting or on base. No Exceptions.

Catchers must wear catcher’s helmet, mask, throat guard, long model chest protector, shin guards and protective cup with athletic supporter at all times for all practices and games. No Exceptions. Managers should encourage all male players to wear protective cups for all practices and games. Protective gear is also available for female players.

Players must wear a helmet and mask with a throat guard while warming up pitchers. This rule applies at all times including between innings during games and while at practice.

Except when runner is returning to base, headfirst slides are not permitted EXCEPT IN SENIOR DIV.

At no time should "horse play" be permitted on the playing field/dugout.

No climbing on the backstops or fences.

Parents of players who wear glasses should be encouraged to provide "safety glasses.

"Players must not wear watches, rings, necklaces, earrings, pins or metallic items during
games and practices. NONE!

Managers and coaches may not warm up pitchers before or during a game. Never! Never!

On deck batters are not permitted. There are no on-deck areas for batters. Players should remain in their dugouts prior to turns at bat. The bat should never be swung in the dugout area.
